Before you apply for a medical transcription job, you must have a background in medical terminologies related to treatment assessments, physiology, anatomy, pediatrics, pharmacology, and diagnostic procedures. You must also be knowledgeable on the different medical abbreviations and jargons and their meanings. Usually, the company provides a standardized medical reference, both printed and in electronic forms that the transcriptionist use as a guide in identifying some of the medical terms.
Most companies do hire those who are graduates of medical courses (e.g. nursing, physical therapy, medical technology etc), retired medical practitioners and those who were able to finish the short course in medical transcription.
